MCMA PROJECTS

The Madison County Medical Alliance currently has many projects, which includes supporting this year's signature project, the North Alabama Medical Reserve Corp, the Huntsville Hospital Mobile Medical Unit, Crestwood MCMA Teen Volunteer Award and the MCMA Medical Student Scholarship for a UAB Medical Student.

North Alabama Medical Reserve Corp (NAMRC)

The North Alabama Medical Reserve Corps has been organized to recruit and train medical and non-medical volunteers to supplement existing community organizations in preparing for and responding to an emergency or disaster and to provide community education in disease awareness and prevention during non-crisis times.

The MCMA works with the NAMRC through grant writing and our own MCMA fundraisers, to develop and sustain the NAMRC's community education projects. Most recently, the MCMA has funded Families on the Go, a childhood obesity prevention initiative, Tar Wars, an anti-tobacco campaign for children and families, and Text 4 Baby, a prenatal care program. The NAMRC also staffs the Mobile Medical Unit.

Huntsville Hospital Foundation Mobile Medical Unit (MMU)

The MMU is a fully equipped vehicle that allows healthcare trained volunteers, such as RNs and MDs, to perform health screenings in underserved areas of our community for things such as diabetes or hypertension, and assist those patients in accessing continued care upon screening. The MMU is also equipped to respond in times of disaster to provide relief and assistance for those affected.

The MCMA raises money each year, through grant writing and fundraisers, to buy the supplies needed to keep the MMU functioning, such as diabetic testing strips or first aid supplies.

New Hope Children's Clinic (NHCC)

The New Hope Children's Clinic is a non-profit, school-based health clinic created to increase the access to and provide local, low-cost comprehensive medical care for children in Madison County and surrounding communities. In its 2,500 square foot modular building, staff of the NHCC see medical patients four days a week, dental patients twice a week, and vision patients monthly. NHCC relies on grant money, fundraising, and the generosity of donors.

The MCMA helps support NHCC through monetary gifts as well as donations of "daily consumables" such as paper towels, copy paper, soap, tissue, small toys, and other needed items.

Walk With A Doc

Walk With A Doc is a walking program for everyone interested in taking steps towards a healthier lifestyle. The MCMA, MCMS, and Pulmonary and Sleep Associates of Huntsville have partnered to bring this wellness program to our area. This is a great start to your weekend and a positive step to improve your health. You will have the opportunity to have questions answered by local physicians while you walk at your own pace. One of the physicians will kick off the walk with a brief talk. There are no special rules and no need for any special gear. Put on a pair of comfortable shoes and walk alone, with friends, a partner, or family. On the second Saturday of every month, the walk will start at 8am in front of Fleet Feet Sports located at Valley Bend Shopping Center on Carl T. Jones Drive.

MCMS is a 501©6 non-profit organization.
